The Judgement Day Effect

One of the teaching that I and you believed for many years is that the judgement day is near. It was near when I became a member many many years ago. It is near every day you hear it in bible studies, in bible expositions, evangelical missions and worship services.

The judgement day is always near even during the time of the first century Christians, yet, 2000 years later it is still near. The elders of the Church further explain, if it was near 2000 years ago, then it is much nearer now.

No doubt, the faith of the Church members are so strong because of the fear of judgment day, the fear to avoid going to the lake of fire. This is why even if the INC members believe there are anomalies, malpractices, corruptions, abuse of power, does not matter how many more offerings and special offerings there is, does not matter how much time spent in fulfilling office duties, even if lost of time to families, many if not all still prefer to “endure until the end“. It is written in Mathew 24:13But he who endures to the end shall be saved“, but the Church never explain when these words are spoken, Christ is talking to the Apostles regarding the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple. In Matthew 24:2 Christ said “…Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another…”, He is referring to the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple and when the Apostles asked when will this happen Christ gave signs and says he who endures until the end shall be saved – referring to the suffering during the time the Temple is in destruction. The Church excuse is that the words spoken by Christ referring to the Jerusalem Temple’s destruction applies to the end of the world as well like history repeating itself.  If everything repeats, then God will allow the destruction of the INC Temples like what happen to the First Temple (Solomon’s Temple) which stood for 410 years but destroyed in 422 BCE. Like the King Herod’s Temple (Jerusalem Temple) which was constructed under the leadership of King Cyrus of Persia in 538 BCE, renovated in 20 BCE by King Herod and destroyed by Roman Empire in 70 AD.

I believe the judgement day effect is very deep inside the Church. Some members don’t bother saving for their future because the end of the world is near, some don’t mind borrowing more money than what they can afford to pay because the world will end anyway. Many do not mind the sufferings of performing office duties, because soon they will be rewarded in heaven. Twenty years ago I don’t mind putting up savings for my retirement, now I thank God I did 20 years ago.

Every member of the Church believe that only inside the Church there is salvation, every one outside Iglesia Ni Cristo will go to the lake of fire. The so-called INC Defenders soften this belief in order to give reasons to their state of being. For INC Defenders they are not truly outside the Church, they are still members because they are not expelled in the rightful manner.

Every faithful INC member believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return soon. It is written in Matthew 24:33So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors“. Also in Matthew 24:44Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”. If only you give yourself time to research the verses I quoted, understand the entire Matthew chapter 24, the context is about the Jerusalem Temple, it is not the end of the world. If we continue reading Matthew 24:33 Christ says “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place“. If Christ said “this generation” will by no means pass away till “all this things” take place while He was talking to the generation of His audience, the Apostles or  Jews, if Christ is talking to the end of the world in Matthew chapter 24, then He lied to every generation from the first century to our time that the end of the world is near…always near. But I believe Christ words are true and that is why when he said “this generation” he meant it to that generation of His time. History confirms that Jerusalem was destroyed by Romans in 70 AD, estimated 40 years after Christ death. A Minister may argue that Christ want every “generation” to think the end is near so that believers will always be prepared but don’t you think He is lying of that is this case? How much more of the scriptures is true then if Christ meant to trick each generation? Don’t you think people will not start doubting other verses then? This idea of “tricking generations ” is illogical reasoning.

What about the signs of wars and rumors of wars in Matthew 24:6? I am now believe in the teaching that this “wars” are the wars of 70 AD. In what generation of mankind there is no wars in the world? Read history, almost every generations experienced some kind of war, nations against nation.

In Matthew 24:23 Christ said “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it.“. If Christ comes tomorrow in Manila, how many people would believe? How many INC members would know and how can people believe? Christ said “do not believe it”. Again in Matthew 24:26 Christ said “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.” . Is Christ trying to tell us that He is actually not coming back? Seriously I am also looking for the answer. I believe the bible is inspired by God so what the Lord Jesus had spoken must be true.

Is there a merit to God all the sacrifices inside the Church? Understand Colossians 2:20-23

Colossians 2:20-23, NKJV – 20 Therefore,if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Ephesians 2:8-9 is a popular verse to many protestant believers. I think they are right, if we do not believe this verse then we do not believe the bible. We are saved by the grace of God, it is not by our work, it is not saying we do not need to do good work, it is saying not by work so that no one should boast like someone saying “I have done many duties in the Church, spend many hours performing my office so I am saved“. Ephesians 2:9, does NOT teach that you do not need good works,  you just can’t use your efforts to boast for your salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9, NKJV – 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Learning the scriptures is wisdom and understanding. There is so much to learn. I do not ask you to believe my opinions, but I encourage you to open your understanding. I dismissed the teaching the bible is kept in mystery, I encourage you do the same, read the bible, search the interpretations of others and use your wisdom to know what is correct and logical interpretations.

The Ends Of The Earth – Revisited

The INC teaches that the “ends of the earth” refers to time, it is the time when the end is near. It is the First World War or July 27, 1914 [history books date on FWW I is July 28, 1914 Hungary time], the time when the Church was registered in the Philippine government in fulfillment of the prophesy according to Church doctrines. There are two verses used: Isaiah 41:9You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,….” and Isaiah 43:6 “…. Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth—”

Theory of Equivocation

The Church refer to the “ends of the earth” as a time, not a place. The time is very important to the Church teachings because it is part of the re-emergence of the first century Church of Christ which according to INC doctrines was apostatized when the first century Christians died. If the teachings are wrong, then it all becomes a fallacy. I searched most of occurrences of “ends of the earth” in the New King James Version (NKJV) none of them I can simply translate to time.

Firstly, Isaiah 41:8 clearly refers the “you” to Israel. If the Minister of the Church argue Israel refers to the Church members, how can you argue that?

Isaiah 41:8-9, NKJV –
8 “But you, Israel, are My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My friend.
9
You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,
And called from its farthest regions,
And said to you,
‘You are My servant,
I have chosen you and have not cast you away:

Secondly, If we read Isaiah 45:1-6, is it not the context of “you” referred to Israel again? Let us check where else prophet Isaiah used “ends of the earth“.

Our focus in this article is the “ends of the earth” if that is actually referring to time or place so let’s leave who the “you” for now.

Definition of “Ends of the Earth”

Wikipedia– The Ends of the Earth is a figurative expression based on the geographical reality of the most distant parts of the earth from whatever point may be treated as central.

Dictionary.com – The utmost limit, as in She would go to the ends of the earth for him. This usage was once literal (referring to the farthest reaches of the planet) but now is used only figuratively.

http://www.phrases.org.uk – The furthest reaches of the land.

Merriam-Webster – the most remote places in the world

www.urbandictionary.com – Places far away, all over the place

Collins Dictionary – remote regions

Dictionary.Babylon-software.com – most distant regions of the earth

Now let us again test the spirit if the teaching on ends of the earth as a “time” is correct.

Isaiah 40:27-28, NKJV –
27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my just claim is passed over by my God”?28
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.

Isaiah 40-27-28 again referring to Israel before referencing the “ends of the earth“. Would it be logical to say “the Creator of WW I in 1914” than “the Creator created the extreme corners of the earth”?

Isaiah 41:5, NKJV – 5 The coastlands saw it and feared, The ends of the earth were afraid; They drew near and came.

Isaiah 41:5 speaking of coast lands, an expanse of land near the sea [Philippines is surrounded by the sea so it is wrong to say it is near the sea], then the ends of the earth were afraid. “ends of the earth” here is more logical to refer to the people of the ends of the earth as a place because of the word coast lands [a land] , “near and came” referring to the people. It is possible to interpret like “the people from the coast lands during the war in 1914 were afraid”.

Isaiah 42:10 again relate coast lands to the “ends of the earth” and refers to “you” inhabitants [a person or animal that lives in or occupies a place.] of them. No doubt these verses are talking about places.

Isaiah 42:10, NKJV – 10 Sing to the Lord a new song,
And His praise from the ends of the earth,
You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,
You coastlands and you inhabitants of them!
Isaiah 49:6, NKJV – 6 Indeed He says,
‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob,
And to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles,
That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

Isaiah 49:6 speaking of the “You” as light to the Gentiles so the “you” cannot be referring to the iNC members now since the Church teaches the Gentiles are the first converts in the first century and the current INC are the people from “afar off”. It will be like a back to the future movie. The context of Isaiah 49:6 is the restoration of Israel who have exiled to the Assyrian Empire(Babylonia) after Judah and Israel has been occupied by he Assyrian.

Check how prophet Isaiah used “ends of the earth” in Isaiah 45:22. He says “all you ends of the earth“. Notice the word “all”.

Isaiah 45:22, NKJV – 22 “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

The word “all” cannot be used to follow time here. We can not say ” all you the WW I in 1914″.

Maybe other prophets use “ends of the earth” as time?

Zechariah 9:10, NKJV – 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the horse from Jerusalem;
The battle bow shall be cut off.
He shall speak peace to the nations;
His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.

How can you say “from the river to the world war in 1914”?

The same words used in Psalms “from the river [ a place ] to the ends of the earth [ another place or places].

Psalm 72:8, NKJV –  8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.

In Deuteronomy 33:17, the use of “ends of the earth” may be referred to time, however the context is speaking of Israel people. Ephraim is the land of Samaria in the New Testament so the context of Deuteronomy is still referring to a place.

Deuteronomy 33:17, NKJV – 17 His glory is like a firstborn bull, And his horns like the horns of the wild ox; Together with them He shall push the peoples To the ends of the earth; They are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And they are the thousands of Manasseh.”

In 1 Samuel 2:10, the scripture says “The Lord will judge the ends of the earth“. I don’t think any faithful INC members would like to hear that.

1 Samuel 2:10, NKJV – 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed.”

In Psalms 67:7, if “ends of the earth” refer to 1914, then all people became INC members to fulfill the scripture but obviously its not the case.

Psalm 67:7, NKJV – 7 God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

Likely, no faithful INC members would like to read Proverbs 17:24. Nobody would like to hear “the eyes of a fool are on July 27, 1914“.

Proverbs 17:24, NKJV – 7 Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

in Proverbs 30:4 it says ” all the ends of the earth“. How many “ends of the earth” or how many beginning does the end of the earth have? It does not make sense as time but it does make sense for a place.

Proverbs 30:4, NKJV – 4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?

Job 37:3 referring to the lightning of the ends of the earth. Is lightning appear relative to a place or time? Obliviously lightning appear in a place.

Job 37:3, NKJV – 3 He sends it forth under the whole heaven, His lightning to the ends of the earth.

Do you inherit time or inherit a thing or place?

Psalm 2:8, NKJV – 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

Psalm 59:13 says “… God rules in Jacob [also mean Israel] to the ends of the earth“. This is a place to another place[s]. God rules in place from Israel to every places of the earth. God does not rule relative to time.

Psalm 59:13, NKJV – 13 Consume them in wrath, consume them,
That they may not be;
And let them know that God rules in Jacob
To the ends of the earth. Selah

Again, how many “ends of the earth” there is if it refers to time? In Psalms 98:3, it says again “all” the “ends of the earth“.

Psalm 98:3, NKJV – 3 He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

There is no doubt in my mind the teachings of “ends of the earth” as time is very weak, does not make sense in the context of the scriptures and lack of realistic references.

Where do we go from here?

John 6:67-69, NKJV – 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”

68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Open your understanding, this verse never mentioned Church of Christ, this verse is not teaching that there is no other place outside the INC, INC is NOT equal to Christ, the Church [proper noun]  is NOT EQUAL to Christ although He is the head of the body, the church. The verse is teaching a lesson that our Lord has the words of eternal life, we have to believe that He is Christ, the Son of the living God. The eternal life is through Jesus there is nothing mentioned eternal life is through the Church all the more it does not teach eternal life is through the obedience to the Church Administration.

This is wisdom and understanding, no mystery.
