“Honour thy father and thy mother” is one of the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament bible.

Colossians 3:20, NKJV – 20Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
Paul letters to the Romans and Timothy describes disobedience to parents as a serious sin (Romans 1:29–31, 2 Timothy 3:2).
Romans 1:29-31, NKJV – 29being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;
2 Timothy 3:2-5, NKJV – 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
The words of Jesus and the teaching of Paul indicate that adult children remain obligated to honour their parents by providing for material needs. In the gospels, Jesus is portrayed as angry with some people who avoided materially providing for their parents by claiming the money they would have used was given to God. It is a also a sin to ignore financial obligation to your parent even if you reason out
Matthew 15:3-8, NKJV – 3He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
Mark 7:9-12, NKJV – 9He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,
According to the Gospel of John, when Jesus was on the cross, he provided for his natural mother by giving the Apostle John the charge to care for her, which John accepted
John 19:26-27, NKJV – 26When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
Paul’s instructions to Timothy regarding the physical care of widows include the following:
1 Timothy 5:4, NKJV – 4But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.
Have the Ten Commandments been changed?
The ten commandments stays the same and those who follows them are blessed.

John 14:15, NKJV – 15If you love Me, keep My commandments.
1 John 5:3, NKJV – 3For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
The Cornelius Theory of Equivocation
Matthew 10:3 was used during the worship service of Week 17 (or Week 18) 2016 inside the INC to justify the expulsion of the mother and siblings of the Executive Minister.
Matthew 10:36, NKJV – 3and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
I am so furious to hear this in a worship service when it is not supported by other verses. What do you think the children are thinking when they hear only Matthew 10:36? Jesus is only saying this if you love your mother or father more than Him. The answer is already in the next verse.
Matthew 10:36-37, NKJV – 3and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’37He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
Unfortunately, the church is teaching tirelessly days in days out in every worship service, love the church administration first for it is the requirement to being with God. “One with EVM” then you become “One with God”.
Honour thy father and thy mother, it is a commandment with a promise.
