How Can We Recognize Bad Church Leaders?

Leadership is such a very important role to be taken in the Church.  A Church leader must live in a holy life so that members will preserve the respect and inspirations. Bad Leadership hinders spiritual maturity and disturb the faith of members which can lead to initially doubts, followed by suspicious, accusations and potentially can yield to members leaving the church.

In Matthew 28:18, Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. The leaders of the Church of today must understand that their authority is not equal nor the same as that of Jesus.

Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV – 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

One of the commandment of the Lord mentioned in Matthew 28-18-20 is to make disciples of all nations and baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

A Church leader must recognized and teach that the Lord Jesus is the head of the Church therefore no one man on earth should be making decisions for all things spiritually. A Church leader is therefore has limited role spiritually in taking the flock.

Ephesians 1:22-23, NRSV – 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

A good leader must preach about the truth and teach the truth.

I John 1:6-7, NKJV – 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

What Can Members Do To Detect Bad Leaders?

Members of the church can emulate the Bereans. They made a note to the teachings and verify themselves daily to find out whether the teachings are correct.

Acts 17:10-11, NKJV – 10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Members must be knowledgeable of the words of God like it is your armor of God. Everyone must be reading the bible not just the ministers of the Church.

Ephesians 6:11-17, NKJV – 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Know when the teachings are being perverted because God gave His instructions already not to add nor take away any things in the book or teachings of God.

Revelation 22:18-19, NKJV – 18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The Cornelius Theory of Equivocation

Are the Iglesia Ni Cristo leaders following the teachings of God? If leaders are not forgiving, they violate the teaching in Matthew 10:15.

Matthew 10:15, NKJV – 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Why is it that the teachings in the worship services always reminds brethren to obey the administration if not you are not of God and you will go to the lake of fire? Is it morally and spiritually correct to keep repeating every worship service these threatening words? True preachers of God teach the gospel of peace.

Romans 10:15, NKJV – 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

If the church teaches us that it is normal to have enemies in your household if you are Igelsia Ni Cristo member as stated in Matthew 10:16

Matthew 10:36, NKJV – 3and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’

Is it a gospel of peace or a total perversion of the context of the bible? Let us read the full content.

Matthew 10:36-37, NKJV – 3and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’37He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

The context of the verse is for those people who love their mother or father or daughter or son more than Jesus. It does not teach that is is normal to have enemy in your household.
