One of the doctrine of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) is to obey the leaders and always submit to them. It is God who placed the administration in the Church and has given it the responsibility to watch over us. It is our obligation to submit ourselves and to obey it. Unlike in other religions, members of the Church of Christ are lovingly cared for so that our service to God can be administered properly. The church is using Hebrews 13:17.
First of all, there is no mentioned of who the leaders to be obeyed. There are bad leaders who led their members into destruction.
Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple, ordered 918 of his followers to kill themselves as a “revolutionary act” in November 1978 in Jonestown, Guyana.
Joseph Di Mambro and Luc Jouret, leaders of Order of the Solar Temple, committed suicide along with their 51 members in 1955.
Marshall Applewhite, Leader of Heaven’s Gate, orchestrated a mass suicide of 38 members on March 26, 1997.
David Koresh, leader of Branch Davidians, led 70 of his followers in a bloody battle with federal law enforcement agents on April 19, 1993 in Waco, Texas.
The Cornelius Theory of Equivocation
Of course the INC Church leaders are smarter than the cult leaders identified above. But the true context of Hebrews has been revealed already in Hebrews 13:7.
There are three things the verse is teaching:
1. Have spoken the word of God;
2. Whose faith follows;
3. Considering the outcome of their conduct.
On item #1, we can accept the church leaders are teaching the words of God, but do they? Is the teaching of “One with EVM” biblical?
One item #2, do they really follow the faith in Christ? Do they preach the gospel of peace or do they teach using “mind conditioning” technique that is teaching to obey without questions, if you don’t could be going to the lake of fire.
One item #3, consider how the Executive Minister and the Church Councils are living in luxurious life style. How the church has become excessive in Guinness Book of Records. Consider the relentless expulsions of those who are voicing their opinions and how they conduct themselves in exchange of words with those who are expelled in the church.
Is the church doctrine on Hebrews 13:17 purposely perverted?
